IMHO probably the MOST important thing you can carry on a job is a small, portable Digital Multi-Meter (DMM). You can use a DMM to confirm and measure AC/DC power, check cable continuity and in general, be ready to be a hero when it hits the fan. If you are not comfortable with a DMM then this is the next best thing.
